ABOUT THE ARTIST
Painting is my gateway to happiness and freedom of spirit. Art is magical and has the power to transform the human existence. Early childhood admiration for cartoons and whimsical drawings started my love affair with art.
I am a native of McAdenville, NC which is better known to locals as "Christmas Town, USA." I worked as a graphic designer at a local newspaper before moving to Asheville, NC in 1997. The vitality of the artistic community in Asheville sparked my desire to pursue a childhood dream of becoming an artist. The canvas becomes a powerful vehicle for communicating inner thoughts and visions into tangible reality.
My process begins with a thought or vision. I then produce numerous sketches until I concrete the idea onto paper. I bring that image to life on canvas with vibrant, brilliant colors. Colors that remind me of happy, whimsical images from childhood. The process is very energizing for me. I work and re-work the piece until it "feels right." The ultimate goal behind each piece is to generate an emotional response from the viewer, a smile or an audible laugh.
Why paint pets? Because they represent the purest forms of unconditional love. They love irrespective of gender, race or creed. My love for animals stems from the deep connection I have with my own pets. I have three Chihuahuas, Casey, Sadie, Maya and a cat, Thomas. These babies have enhanced my life in ways that I could never explain. My heart goes out to those animals that do not have permanent homes or loving families. I actively work with local animal rescue groups and donate my art to raise awareness and provide financial support for these wonderful organizations that strive to give all animals a deserving, loving home.
